Ignata, Irina

Irina Ignata captivates on stage with the radiant, dark timbre of her voice and her intense stage presence.

She has recently attracted significant critical acclaim for her debut as Amneris in Verdi’s Aida at Staatstheater Darmstadt (production by Noa Naamat). Her performance was widely praised by the press, with Die Deutsche Bühne naming her the singer of the evening, highlighting her apparent ease, finely controlled voice, and nuanced portrayal of the transformation from a commanding ruler to a figure of deeper awareness, while the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung praised her compelling and convincing interpretation… elevating the role with striking dramatic presence.

In the same period, Irina Ignata appeared as mezzo-soprano soloist in Verdi’s Requiem with the Oratorienchor Würzburg and the Vogtland Philharmonie, further consolidating her presence in the dramatic concert repertoire.

In March 2026, she is featured at the Meistersingerhalle Nürnberg with the Nürnberger Symphoniker, singing Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de Confessore.

Active throughout Europe, she has taken on roles such as Polina (The Queen of Spades) at the Latvian National Opera in Riga, Olga (Eugene Onegin) at the Opéra de Lausanne, Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia) in Innsbruck, and Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) at the Immling Festival.

On the concert stage, Irina has moved audiences with her deeply expressive alto solo in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 at the Immling Festival. She also made a successful Danish debut with the Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester in Rossini’s Stabat Mater, where she demonstrated both the flexibility and warmth of her voice in the bel canto repertoire.

In May 2025, she received further acclaim in Strasbourg and Leipzig, performing Stravinsky’s Faun and Shepherdess with the Orchestre Universitaire de Strasbourg.

During the 2022/2023 season, Irina Ignata was a member of the ensemble at the Tiroler Landestheater, where she appeared as Margaretha (Genoveva by Schumann) and Feodor (Boris Godunov), among others.

From 2016 to 2020, she was a member of the Staatstheater Nürnberg. As part of the International Opera Studio, she performed roles including Mercédès (Carmen), Anna in Calixto Bieito’s production of Les Troyens, Emilia (Otello), the alto part in a staged St. Matthew Passion, Rossweisse (Die Walküre), and Flora (La Traviata). As an ensemble member, her major roles included Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), and Hélène Bezukhova (War and Peace).

Irina Ignata has collaborated with conductors such as Marcus Bosch, Keri-Lynn Wilson, Oliver Dohnányi, Yi Chen Lin, Wolfgang Katschner, Joana Mallwitz, Guido Johannes Rumstadt, Kerem Hasan, Johannes Zahn and Lutz de Veer, as well as with directors including Calixto Bieito, Mariame Clément, Jens-Daniel Herzog, Tilman Knabe, Peter Konwitschny, David Mouchtar-Samorai, Georg Schmiedleitner, Laura Scozzi, and Taddeus Strassberger.

She has participated in masterclasses with Kirsten Schötteldreier, Daphne Evangelatos, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Grace Bumbry, and Daniel Ottevaere. Irina Ignata is the recipient of numerous competition prizes, including the Grand Prize at the 10th “Musica Classica” Festival Competition in Moscow, First Prize at the International Singing Competition in Lonigo, and Third Prize at the Rachmaninov Competition in Rostov-on-Don. She has also been a finalist at the Otto Edelmann Competition in Vienna, Nuits Lyriques de Marmande, and the Ebe Stignani Competition in Imola (2023).

After completing her studies at the Russian Gnessins Academy of Music in Moscow, she continued her training at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and completed her Master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg.
