Lapich, Ilya

Born in Rostov-on-Don and raised in Bolivia, baritone Ilya Lapich discovered his passion for singing at an early age. He initially studied acting and made his first stage appearances at the Maxim Gorky Academic Theatre before completing his vocal studies at the State University of Theatre Arts in Moscow.

His upcoming engagements include El Duque (Die Mitternachtstür) at Deutsche Oper am Rhein and a significant number of roles at the National Theatre Mannheim: Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Lord Cecil (Maria Stuarda), Dandini (La Cenerentola), Marcello (La Bohème) and others.

Ilya made his professional operatic debut as Count Robinson in Il matrimonio segreto by Cimarosa and was awarded prizes at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg in 2015 and 2016. During his training, he participated in the Young Artist Programmes of the Académie de l’Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Bayreuth Festival.

His career has included collaborations with conductors such as Alexander Soddy and Roberto Rizzi Brignoli, and directors including Calixto Bieito and Barbora Horáková.

Alongside his operatic career, Ilya Lapich is also an active recital artist. His concert repertoire includes songs by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Modest Mussorgsky, as well as works by Gustav Mahler and Alban Berg.

Following two seasons in the Opera Studio, he joined the ensemble of the National Theatre Mannheim in the 2018/19 season. There he has appeared as Dandini (La Cenerentola), Schaunard (La Bohème), Sid (Albert Herring), Belcore (L’elisir d’amore), Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Don Giovanni, Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Silvio (I Pagliacci), Apollo (L’Orfeo) and Falke (Die Fledermaus).

His repertoire also includes Eugene Onegin, Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Guglielmo (Così fan tutte). Guest engagements have taken him to the Immling Festival as Leporello (Don Giovanni), the Wernigeröder Schlossfestspiele as Escamillo (Carmen), and as Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) and Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) to the Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Aalto-Musiktheater Essen, the Tyrolean State Theatre Innsbruck and, most recently, the Lucerne Theatre.

In addition to his singing career, Ilya Lapich has a solid background in dance, acrobatics, and stage combat, and has also performed in musicals and operettas. Fluent in five languages, he combines vocal artistry with a dynamic and engaging stage presence.
