The Danish soprano Sofie Lund (b. 1993) has, in a short time, established herself as one of the most promising young voices on the Scandinavian opera scene. She is a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music’s Opera Academy and the Royal College of Music in London, where she completed the Artist Diploma in Opera.
From 2023 to 2025, Sofie was a member of the ensemble at Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern in Germany, where she held a two-year fixed contract and performed several leading and supporting roles.
Sofie made her professional debut in 2021 at Den Ny Opera in Esbjerg as Nanetta in Verdi’s Falstaff. Since then, she has appeared in a wide range of roles including Violetta (La Traviata, Danish National Opera), Eurydice (Orpheus, Royal Danish Opera), Pamina (The Magic Flute, Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern), Maschenka (Der Goldene Brunnen, Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern), Sophie (Werther, Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern), Woglinde (Götterdämmerung, Den Ny Opera), and Angina (Manualen, Royal Danish Opera).
In 2022, Sofie joined the Atelier Lyrique programme at the renowned Verbier Festival in Switzerland, where she was awarded the PrixThierry Mermod for her acclaimed interpretation of Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel and Gretel.
In 2024, she was named Opera Talent of the Year at the Copenhagen Opera Festival, praised for her captivating versatility and radiant musical intelligence.
Beyond the opera stage, Sofie has appeared as a concert soloist in works such as Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, and Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, performing with orchestras including the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra.
She has collaborated with leading conductors such as Stanislav Kochanovsky, Michael Schønwandt, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Robert Houssart, and Daniele Squeo, and has worked with distinguished stage directors including Kasper Holten, Jetske Mijnssen, Sascha Milavic, and Hendrik Müller.
Sofie has also benefited from masterclasses and coaching with internationally renowned artists such as Thomas Hampson, Angela Gheorghiu, Anne Sofie von Otter, and Barbara Frittoli.
With her warm tone, technical mastery, and magnetic stage presence, Sofie Lund stands out as a remarkable soprano of her generation — an artist of both deep musical intelligence and expressive power, whose artistry resonates far beyond the stage.
