Johannes Pessi is a Finnish opera and concert singer who recently changed his voice type from baritone to tenor repertoire.

Pessi won Third Prize at the Lohja Tenor Competition in 2026. In 2025, he was awarded Third Prize at the Lappeenranta National Singing Competition and reached the semifinals of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition.

In the 2026/27 season, Pessi appears at the Finnish National Opera as Il Messaggero in Verdi’s Aida. In autumn 2026, he also sings Siegmund in a concert performance of Wagner’s Die Walküre.

His previous appearances at the Finnish National Opera include Spoletta in Puccini’s Tosca and roles in the company’s children’s opera productions. At the Savonlinna Opera Festival, he has appeared, among other roles, as the First Nobleman in Wagner’s Lohengrin.

Pessi graduated with a Master of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki in 2024. He has been selected for the international Mirjam Helin Academy, a high-level artist development and training programme for exceptionally gifted young singers.
