Rabek, Weronika

Polish mezzo-soprano Weronika Rabek has been an ensemble member of Theater Magdeburg since the 2022/23 season. Her repertoire there includes Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Carmen, Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Annio (La clemenza di Tito), nsel (nsel und Gretel), Olga (Eugene Onegin), Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos), Smeraldina/Linetta (Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen), Cupido (Orpheus in der Unterwelt), Chava (Anatevka), and Bessie Worthington (Die Blume von Hawaii).

From 2019 to 2022 she was a member of the Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Hannover, where she appeared as Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Mercédès (Carmen), Sandmännchen/Taumännchen (nsel und Gretel), Suse (Der Vampyr), Flora (The Turn of the Screw), the mezzo-soprano role in Philip Venable’s and Ted Huffman’s Denis & Katya, Prinzessin in Iris ter Schiphorst’s Die Gänsemagd, and Vivienne in Evers’ Humanoid.

As a guest artist she has performed at theatres including Staatstheater Mainz, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Staatstheater Cottbus, Theater St. Gallen, and the Warsaw Chamber Opera, and has collaborated with orchestras such as Sinfonia Varsovia, Cappella Cracoviensis, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra, and La festa musicale.

She made her stage debut in 2016 as Ramiro (La finta giardiniera), followed by Medea in Cavalli’s Il Giasone at the Haute école de musique de Genève and Nino in Stradella’s Il Trespolo tutore at Teatr Collegium Nobilium in Warsaw.

In 2023 she sang the title role in Vivaldi’s Juditha Triumphans at the Warsaw Chamber Opera.

Her concert repertoire includes Mozart’s Mass in C minor and Requiem, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and St John Passion, Handel’s Belshazzar, Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, and Lutosławski’s Five Songs to poems by K. Iłłakowiczówna.

Weronika Rabek holds a Master’s degree in Early Music from the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where she studied with Jadwiga Rappé, and a Master’s degree in Opera from the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, where she studied with Marek Rzepka. She received the Special Prize at the Paula Salomon-Lindberg Competition Das Lied in Berlin (2019), was a finalist at the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang (Berlin, 2022), and won Second Prize at the Ada Sari International Vocal Competition in 2023.
