News August

With the summer season in full swing, Ascolta Artists continue to share their artistry in opera houses, festivals, and concert halls across Northern Europe throughout August.

The month begins with baritone Teit Kanstrup, who opens a new series of performances as Günther in Peter Bruun’s Erna og kroen at Hotel Pro Forma. Performances continue throughout August and September.

On 7 August, mezzo-soprano Sidsel Eriksen joins the Royal Danish Theatre’s Summer Concerts, performing in a series of open-air concerts throughout Denmark.

A major highlight of the month is Opera Hedeland’s new production of Puccini’s Tosca, bringing together four Ascolta Artists. Soprano Yana Kleyn appears in the title role, baritone Jens Søndergaard sings Scarpia, tenor Conny Thimander performs Spoletta. Performances take place on 8, 12, and 14 August.

Bass Steffen Bruun takes on the monumental role of Wotan in Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen at Det Lille Teater as part of the Copenhagen Opera Festival, appearing in the festival’s innovative alternative version of the Ring cycle. Following its premiere on 14 August, the production continues through 23 August 2026.

Concert life remains equally busy throughout the month. Puccini’s La Bohème features in the Copenhagen Phil‘s August programme, with bass Tae Jung Hwang taking on the role of Colline on 15 August. On 16 August, Anders Kampmann and Sofie Elkjær Jensen perform with the Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester in a summer concert, while later in the month Simon Duus, Anders Kampmann, Teit Kanstrup, and Sidsel Eriksen appear with the Copenhagen Phil in the concert programme Operaduellen Hammer and Cillius.

Meanwhile, tenor Christian Damsgaard-Madsen returns to Malmö Opera as Lloyd/Bill Watson in Stephen King’s The Shining, with performances continuing throughout August and into October.

Soprano Sibyle Glosted joins Den Ny Opera in Esbjerg for the Shakespeare-inspired programme Purcell among others – A Midsummer Night’s Dream, presented throughout the second half of the month.

We are delighted to see so many of our artists shaping this year’s summer season with inspiring performances across opera, concerts, and festivals. We wish them continued success and look forward to sharing more exciting projects in the months ahead!
